DDW Pic 443. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Today we say happy 32nd birthday to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in the Magic Kingdom. This attraction opened on November 15th, 1980. It cost $17 million dollars to construct, which was the total cost to build all of Disneyland in 1955. Even after three decades, Thunder Mountain is still one of the most popular rides in the park, with wait times over an hour on busy days. It was recently closed for several months for refurbishment. Disney did a nice job of cleaning and painting (especially in the queue), and it once again looks like it did when it opened more than thirty years ago. This attraction recently became my six-year-old son's favorite, so I see us riding it quite often in the near future!
